Neighbours and working with leather

Preparing Leather for Laser Cutting at Cut By Beam

We've been so grateful to have fantastic studio neighbours in Francli. Even more so as both businesses have navigated working through the pandemic.

We’ve just cut the latest round of pattern pieces for their gorgeous phone cases.

Francli take pre-orders for these in batches, so as to minimise waste. Made in quality Italian vegetable tanned leather, we then get involved at Cut By Beam to cut out the pieces and make sure that as much of the material gets used as possible. If there are gaps between the phone case pieces, we make labels for them, or they kindly donate offcuts for us to use on other projects. Finally we laser etch each case with its own unique batch number. Read the full story of the process here.

We’re lucky to have Tor Harrison working nearby as well, to take great pictures of what we all do.
